A tough match against high running Westbury. After starting positively, with possession breaking down in the final third, Westbury sustained early pressure with a few consecutive corners. Heytesbury not clearing led to a stabbed in goal for Westbury to take an early lead. Heytesbury then got more into the game, with Tom M, Finn, Adam R and Tom P marshalling the defense, well protected by the midfield. Some pressure led to long shots, but a lack of calmness in the final third failed to turn good possession into a goal. Inexplicably after one attack should have led to a Heytesbury corner, only for Westbury to break, an uneven bounce taking the ball away from the advancing Oscar S and Westbury grabbing a fortunate second. Still Heytesbury battled through to halftime.
We talked about controlling the midfield more, and being calmer in the final third which the lads put in place at the beginning of the second half. Luke marshalling the middle of the park well with Oscar I and Hugo working as a unit, releasing Sam and later Harry and Liam in particular to put Westbury under pressure. Once again a lucky rebound off Oscar S from a Westbury break, fell to a striker and 3-0. Westbury really had the rub of the green today. The work paid off, with Harry brought down cynically breaking from midfield led to a free kick. Adam J stepping up to deliver a beautiful ball into the box and Oscar I rifling it home. A great goal. Heytesbury pressed, but nothing else came about. 3-1 the final score, but Heytesbury controlled a good side and could easily have come away with something today.
There were many great efforts today, especially some well disciplined performances, but Finn's dominance at the back got him the players man of the match vote.
Chilcompton U 18s 5-6 Heytesbury U18s

Thrilling game to end the year for Heytesbury. Two teams with bare 11, and debutants in goal led to a real ding-dong! Starting downhill with the wind Heytesbury pressed early, with chances for both attackers not finding the net. Chilcompton looking on the break, got themselves a penalty with their striker tangling legs. Smartly placed into the corner for 1-0. Heytesbury were getting plenty of opportunities, the following football clicking in for a deserved goal, Adam J beating the defence & squaring to Liam to convert 1-1. Unfortunately the next came for Chilcompton, with another pen, this time won on the right. Again well taken for 2-1. A beautiful ball played through from Adam R released Luke to take his first of the day making it 2-2. Harry tipped on onto the post before Luke taking his second to give Heytesbury the lead. Chilcompton leveling shortly after with Heytesbury struggling to clear making it 3-3. Heytesbury had significantly more chances, but not clinical until the ball broke out from good pressure to Ben who rifled in a fantastic shot bringing us in up 4-3 at halftime.
The ding-dong nature continued second half. Chilcompton breaking quickly pulling back from wide for 4-4, before a great deep freekick from Adam R and finished by Finn for 5-4. This game was not dead yet, with Luke going off briefly after catching a flailing arm to the nose, Chilcompton leveled yet again. Heytesbury showed great passion though as Tom P played it through and Adam J finished off calmly.
A performance that showed great character and team work from the 11, and Harry deserved the man of the match sacrificing his usual wing spot for keeping. Notable mentions for Adam J with the winner and 2 assists, Adam R with 2 stunning assists and leading the back line, and Luke with 2 goals and playing through after stopping the nose bleed. Great team effort today.
Melksham 1-1 Heytesbury U18s
21.11.21
Another day with low numbers today meant a shift in formation to 3-4-3 today. The lads starting well, working in good combinations with Hugo and Liam, and Luke and Harry out wide combining to give Melksham some problems early in the game. The first chance came to Harry who worked well to strike the post. The breakthrough came with Liam working the ball eventually through to Oscar I who clinically finished to put the 'bury ahead before halftime. There were many chances, but they just wouldn't sit to take. Our defence and Oscar S sweeping up anything Melksham could bring. This left us disappointed at halftime just being one up.
Second half we pressed and dominated the first 15 minutes. Striking the post, and at one stage had 4 shots - one hitting the post, one the keeper and others scrambled away... In fact the keeper saving from the inside of the post, seemingly behind the line, but not given. The frustration led to the grip on the game shifting, a free kick from just inside Heytesbury's half lofted over the back and struck well to make it 1-1 against the run of the game. Still Heytesbury pushed for the lead, but it wouldn't come. With a number of shots just wide, and chances that just wouldn't go in. With moments to go a deflected dipping shot looked like it would cruelly take the win for Melksham, but a fantastic acrobatic save by Oscar S kept the game level. 1-1 away is no bad result, but Heytesbury deserved all three points today from another solid performance.
Man of the match went to Finlay with a dominant centre midfield performance.
Westbury U18's 7-4 Heytesbury U18s
07.11.21
Heytesbury traveled to an in form Westbury, currently running away at the top of the league, after a few weeks break.Westbury pushed on early in the first half, opening the scoring with a ball over the top, then quickly pouncing on a soft back pass to double their advantage. 20 minutes in the game looked like running away from Heytesbury.Yet some good football, utilising the wingers put Liam free down the right, zipping an excellent cross in, Luke pressuring the defender into pegging them back to 2-1.
A few minutes later Heytesbury grabbed another, further great work through the midfield released Liam again and though desperately trying to stand through a bad challenge, the ref fairly gave a penalty. Liam stepped up and converted to make it 2-2.Westbury hit back to make it 3-2, with a corner breaking free to the back post & drilled in.Not to be deterred, Heytesbury struck again, working Oscar I through, using his pace to free himself from defenders and make it 3-3 at halftime.
Early in the second half a Westbury strike from distance deflected into the bottom right, followed by a wonder shot from 25 yards to grab a 5-3 lead.Unfortunately a couple of dangerous corners extended thier lead further as Heytesbury tired with only one sub to Westbury's 5. Yet still not beaten, a few great chances snuck by the post for Heytesbury until Oscar I wriggled free and fired a great goal into the roof of the net. 7-4, the final score, yet a bright game for Heytesbury against a strong side. A few rusty mistakes aside and we could easily be talking about a famous victory.Man of the match shared between Oscar I and Liam H, though there were strong games for much of the Heytesbury team.

A great display from Heytesbury this week.
First half started fairly evenly but Heytesbury fought to control the game. A fantastic long shot the keeper couldn't handle and Liam followed in to knock in the rebound for 1-0.
Combining well Oscar I picked up the next, then Liam with great movement notched Heytesbury's 3rd. It could have been many more before halftime, but Liam completed his hattrick to take Heytesbury in with a 4-0 lead.
After squandering leads recently, Heytesbury returned to the pitch looking to gain better control on the game, and that they did. Working together well to retain the upper hand, combining through defence and midfield until another good finish from Liam took his tally to 4, Heytesbury 5-0 after 60 minutes of play. This really broke Chilcompton's spirit, leading to Oscar I to grab three more goals, his pace capitalising as time and again Heytesbury broke the defence down.
A great opportunity to introduce James into goal and give Oscar S a chance on pitch led to Oscar S scoring, again utilising his pace past a tired defence.
Chilcompton grabbed a consolation late with a looping bounce into the net through a crowd after a corner.
9-1 with Oscar I and Liam both grabbing 4 goals each. This was a good performance, another step forward, with the promise of more excellent football to come.
