Heytesbury 2 (2) - (0) 3 Corsham

It's often said it's a game of two halves, and this one was that.

First half started a little scrappy, both teams working hard to gain superiority. The Heytesbury defence doing well to keep some pacy strikers at bay. As the half progressed the Heytesbury midfield gained more control over two well balanced teams, strikers stretching the Corsham defence. After a couple of good chances, keeper making decent saves, Harry broke the deadlock with a rasping shot into the roof of the net to make it 1-0.

Our wide players again working well, Liam fired a great shot into the bottom left to make it 2-0. Corsham kept pushing on the counter, yet the defence well drilled, with debutant Casper fitting in well, kept the score at 2-0 halftime.

The second half started balanced again, but shortly into the half Corsham grabbed a corner against the run of play and stabbed in a goal to make it 2-1. With Ben injured Heytesbury were down to bare 11 and Corsham were pushing. Still Heytesbury had most play, Corsham counter attacking at pace, grabbed 2 more to slip into a 3-2 lead.

Heytesbury pushed, a combination of dipping shots just over the bar, good saves and others just wide, the equaliser wouldn't come as both teams tired, Oscar S saving well to keep it deservedly tight.

Two well balanced teams, Heytesbury ought to have seen this game out after being 2 up. With much to learn, Heytesbury showed at their best they are untouchable, but consistency is key.

A great start from the boys is Green taking control of the game and limiting Durrington to long balls over the top what the defence and keeper dealt with well.

Midway through the half Hey got there reward with a set peace that resulted in a goal. Durrington continued to play ball through our midfield players and in behind our defence but only to the frustration of the forwards, this was capitalised on when Hey got a second goal just before halftime with a break that started out wide.

Durrington started the second half with fresh legs and soon capitalised pulling a goal back. Hey continued to have good passages of play only to be punished by quick passing and movement of Durrington to level the score.

Hey continued to play the game with there own quick passing and often frustrated the Durrington midfield but never quite managed to get back in front before Durrington took the lead with two more quick goals. At this point Hey dug deep again and frustrated there midfield but it was the fast response of Hey keeper that got him an assist with a ball though the middle that was picked up and driven into the net, this was no more than a hard working team deserved. It was the last quarter that Durrington managed to show the depth of there team with more fresh legs rolling on and this was enough for them to get two more goals and the 3 points.

A top top effort from the 12 in green 👏

Started off a little disjointed, leading to many scrappy moments where each team vied for control. Eventually we showed some dominance and chances came again and again, with the keeper saving well, and some rusty shooting. Meanwhile the defence dominated their attack, with Oscar S sweeping excellently behind a well drilled back 4. With growing frustration that we'd not broken the deadlock, an excellent drilled corner from Harry led to confusion and a defender deflected in his own net. 1-0 Heytesbury. We spoke at halftime to focus on our football, and being more direct and clinical 2nd half. The lads did brilliantly, in a few minutes Ben unleashed a cracking long shot firing into the roof of the net to make it 2. It was a great goal, matched in quality by fine strikes from Oscar I and then another from Adam J.  Chances kept coming for Heytesbury in a very strong second half performance. It could have been more, but we're happy with a 4-0 victory.

A result we deserved, and a great way to start the league campaign.

WESTBURY UNDER 17/18 FRIENDLY

01.09.21

Heytesbury v Westbury is always going to be a game with a little bit more passion given the local rivorie between these two teams. A great performance from Heytesbury who've been without a game since 6th December 2020.
The passion came through before KO as Heytesbury showed their determination to play with 11 players, as summer holidays reduced numbers. Westbury game time soon showed through with the hold they took on the game. It was a string of good positioning and cover from the Heytesbury defence that frustrated Westbury, before they broke thorough to be met by a goalkeeper who showed great awareness and determination with a double quick save followed by MOTM to top his performance.
Westbury then made 3 substitutions, whose fresh legs capitalised on a loose ball to take the lead. As on many occasions, this was enough to make Heytesbury push a little harder and play with the ability they so often show, with Westbury quickly closing our midfield players it left an opportunity for our wide players to push and this gave Westbury concerns at the back and tested their keeper, unfortunately the fresh legs of Westbury and a Heytesbury player pushing on with a knock they took an opportunity to add a goal. As before Heytesbury pushed for a goal that soon brought about a free kick outside the area, with the team looking at one player to do what he does well in training he stepped up and delivered with a ball dropping perfectly just under the bar for a hard thought goal. Heytesbury continued to play one touch fast moving football challanging Westbury across the field but with more fresh players Westbury took their opportunities in front of goal. Never losing belief, Heytesbury got themselves a second goal equal to the quality of the first. With two players picking up injuries and leaving the field it was looking like a hard end to the game before 2 Westbury players pulled on a Heytesbury shirt to keep the numbers equal. This was a great show for the love of the game from our local rivals. The game finishes with a Westbury win and a great team performance from Heytesbury.

Team- James Grant (GK), Harry Clare, Luke Brichard-Parsons, Adam Jowers, Oscar Irvine, Liam Henry, Tom Marchant, Sam Knight, Adam Reeves, Dominik Starr, Ben Brewer.
