Wayne
Heytesbury have lost a great friend and player, we will miss you Wayne.
I think his fellow player and friend Kyle Edwardes speaks for us all when he says “ one of the nicest, most genuine guys I have ever met, I feel so privileged to have known you”
Wayne Marchmont joined us in the summer of 2016. We were short of players and James Morrell brought him along to a training session with a few other mates. I think Wayne had played mostly 6 a side football up until then, i remember talking to our manager Tom O’Brien and we both said he looks handy but where do we play him. It was a very tough season and Wayne played almost every game. Full back, winger, midfield wherever he was asked to play he just got on with it and gave his all. When the game was over, he would shake hands and walk off the pitch, often looking a bit battered, but always with a smile on his face.
At the end of the season, we had our presentation night at the Red Lion. We gave out the normal awards, but we had decided to give out a new award for the club. Clubman of the year. It was an easy choice for us, and we gave it to Wayne. As normal Wayne was the last to leave the pub and invited players back to his place to carry on the party.
We were relegated that year but came back strong the following season. Wayne played a major part. He was given the left back role and he made it his own. In the A&B Cup semi final at Freshford Wayne put in a man of the match performance helping Heytesbury to their first cup final in many years. Scoring after 2 minutes he also set up the last goal in a 5-3 win. In the years that followed Wayne was always one of the first names on the team sheet. He had become one of the best defenders in the league.
Wayne made many friends at Heytesbury and will be remembered by us all; his dad Alan has been a regular visitor to the Park and at many away games, always supporting Wayne and Heytesbury. Our thoughts are with his family.
